Inglorious - LIVE: Gibson Guitar Showrooms, London 2015

Album Showcase
November 19 (19:50 - 20:25)
Capacity 200

Having first set foot on a stage together back in May at the Hippodrome Casino, it's been non-stop activity for new UK hard rock band Inglorious, fronted by Trans-Siberian Orchestra/Uli Jon Roth alumni Nathan James.

Straight after that show the band recorded their debut self-titled album, and signed a deal with Italy's Frontiers Records for its release in February 2016. By way of celebration, and one of just two further live appearances in 2015 (the other opening the main stage at the Planet Rockstock Festival in December), this intimate event at the Gibson Guitar Showrooms was put in place to showcase tracks from the album for the first time.

Only scheduled to play for half an hour (and still managing to take the stage late) didn't give them very much time to show off their material, but they squeezed seven of the 11 tracks from the album in - by way of stealing an extra five minutes - and thoroughly impressed all 200 people in attendance with their performance.

It would be easy to class Inglorious as Nathan James's backing band, but they're a much more complete outfit than that. Their big rock riffs coming from guitarists Will Taylor and the flamboyant Andreas Eriksson are as important as any of James' note-perfect wails, while bassist Colin Parkinson and drummer Phil Beaver looked like they were only being kept in place by the confines of the tiny stage.

Leading with their best song, new video single Until I Die, followed by first single Breakaway, put anyone who had been paying attention to the fledgling band online in familiar territory before they broke into songs barely anyone apart from those close to the band had heard before. All of which proved the singles weren't a fluke, with strong riffs, catchy melodies, and choruses which aren't too soft.

Amidst the waves of hyperbole washing around the band already from all those who are looking forward to proudly stating they were there at the beginning, is a genuinely good hard rock band; young, hungry, and talented. Having one of the best young singers in rock music helps of course, but this isn't a singer's vanity project. This is a band who already better than most of the current darlings of the hard rock scene. On the evidence of their live prowess, they should overtake them, which time will tell.

“ strong riffs, catchy melodies, and choruses which aren't too soft ”
